SUBJECT: Your March 4 Meeting

At your March 4 meeting we will be focusing on the issue of "traffic calming." At your first workshop we had discussed this concept in general terms, looking for ways to physically change our streets to lower maximum speeds and improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers. Various traffic calming techniques are widely used around the world on local streets, but applying these techniques to Estero Boulevard is complex because it also functions as an arterial street and an evacuation route.

To assist us in identifying the appropriate calming techniques for Estero Boulevard, we have retained Mr. Walter Kulash, a veteran transportation engineer from Orlando with a specialty in this area. He will be providing Victor Dover with a critique of the designs being developed since your first workshop, and will be making a presentation to you on March 4 at 7:00 P.M. During this visit he will also be meeting with Lee County DOT officials (whose approval will be required as long as Estero Boulevard remains a county road).

Attached for your review are additional comments that have been submitted by the public in response to our community design workshop.
